Blogger Inspiration: Colorblocking

I'm not sure when or where it started, but colorblocking has easily become my favorite trend of the Spring season. It could have easily been the recent Zara lookbooks or the delicious array of tops and skirts available at Mango... or maybe even my fellow bloggers. Either way, I've fallen for the fun, energetic vibe and have been gravitating toward bright hues for weeks now. I just wish my closet could accommodate more pieces!

Here are some of my current favorite looks, from left to right, top to bottom:
1. The Walking Recessionista
2. Atlantic-Pacific
3. Hallie Daily
4. Late Afternoon
5. FriChic

Show me how you've done the trend or share some of your favorite takes on it!

Five for Friday: Marc by Marc Jacobs Simone Dress Alternatives

Images courtesy of their respective links below

At first sight of the Marc by Marc Jacobs Simone dress ad, I fell head-over-heels for this piece. It has everything I love about summer: bright colors, stripes, a loose and playful skirt and, of course, that little bit of quirkiness the man never forgets to bring. "Marc by Marc Jacobs?" I thought. "I might actually be able to afford it!" Sadly for me, ol' Marc didn't take my paycheck and bank account into consideration when designing this beauty because it retails for upward of $600. I shouldn't have been surprised, seeing as how it literally embodies perfection. But I was. Cue the alternative-dress hunt.

Cooperative via Urban Outfitters
The first -- and probably still favorite -- dress I found was the Cooperative Tank Dress via Urban Outfitters, which costs a mere $49. The color scheme and the silhouette are so reminiscent of the original Marc by Marc Jacobs creation that I've added it to the top of my shopping list (and packing list for Roma).

I'm also coveting this Multi Cruise Stripe Sleeveless Dress from Topshop. At $60, it's a steal! And it has a full skirt, summery stripes and an easy-to-wear shape, which is perfect for those days where you can't be bothered to even put on a belt.

Kimchi Blue via Urban Outfitters
Another Urban Outfitters find, this Kimchi Blue Lace Bib Dress captures the sunny feeling of the Marc piece and adds a little flirty detail to the collar. At $49, I'll take two!

Forever 21
Don't act surprised when I tell you that you can get this Stitched Polka Dot Dress at Forever 21 for a mere $28 (and I'm rounding up!). While it doesn't carry the same spin-worthy skirt, it does make up for its shortcomings in polka dots, so you know I'm a fan.

And, last but not least, I found the Pastelling Secrets Dress at ModCloth. Its colors aren't as vivid, but it projects a similar careless feeling as the Marc one. I see myself lounging on a cool grassy field in this, my floppy straw hat and not much else. Aah, summer!

Now, to find some cool accessories to add to these babies...

Guest blog for Live Love LA

Point-and-shoots are hard to use!

Whooo! To call this an exhausting weekend would be doing it an injustice. I flew out to Sin City on Friday night, got picked up in a limo (because my friends are incredibly saucy like that), partied my face off and slept a total of 6 hours. As such, this post is brought to you by caffeine and laryngitis.

I missed this little blog, though! I wanted to tend to it yesterday, but had barely any time because the party continued at home. That got me to thinking... I don't want to leave this baby unattended when I go to Roma next month. I'd hate to leave my readers hanging, but I also don't want to overexert myself and do half-assed posts just so there's something new. My conclusion? I'll ask a few other bloggers (read: you guys!) to guest post for me! I've always seen this done on other blogs and I love being able to connect to new people in that way.

The rules are pretty simple:
- Post something that you would normally post on your own blog, from personal style shots to inspirational photos to insightful tips
- Email me by Sunday, May 1 at neekoh (at) livelovela.net and let me know you'd be interested
- Those selected will have to have their posts (complete with image links and any html formatting included) sent to me by Friday, May 6 so I can schedule the posts throughout the week of my absence (which is May 11 through May 20) -- these deadlines are, of course, more of guidelines and I'm certainly flexible
- My trip is 10 days long, so I'll aim to have between 3 and 6 guest posts for you guys
- If you do end up posting on LiveLoveLA.net, I ask you to please link to your guest post in your own blog. I, of course, will be doing the same thing to direct people to your site

So, if you're interested, please shoot me an email ASAP! I can't wait to hear from you guys and I'm really excited to be getting in touch with more of you :)

Now, it's time for coffee number 2.

Five for Friday: Fave Posts of the Week

Bit of a hodge-podge post today. I've resorted to this minimalistic post today due to my lack of time. But, all is well! I have plenty up my sleeve for you guys when I come back. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these links.

Urban Outfitters is having a Fill 'er Up sale at Space 15 Twenty this weekend. You pay $50 then fill up your bag with whatever you can! If you're in LA, you should definitely check it out since proceeds benefit Japan relief efforts.

Apparently, the sale didn't go over too well. In fact, you can read up on it at MyFDB.

Carolina Krews knows how to do sexy without going overboard. I've used her blog to inspire this weekend's Vegas outfits.

Trying to join the elite club of jetsetters? Refinery29 has your guide to becoming a jetsetter. I'm somewhere between backing my LBD and picking my travel accessory.

My next DIY project will include a spice rack above my stove. Image via Design*Sponge.

I just opened my eyes to Every Body, Every Wear and joined their maxi challenge with this floorlength post. Do yourself a favor and join in on the fun. The inspiration and possibilities are truly endless!

I hope you guys have an awesome weekend, whether you're at Coachella, Vegas, LA or anywhere else in the world! Cheers from this jetsetter-in-the-making ;)

What to Wear to Vegas

what to wear to vegas

It's no secret that Las Vegas is my home away from home. And this weekend, I'm lucky enough to be going to my friend's bachelorette party (the one whose bridal shower I went to last month). I'm not sure what what she has planned yet, but one thing is for sure: clubbing! The last thing I want to do, though, is blend in with a sea of homogenic hoochies. OK, I'm not going to lie and say that I've always been anti-cleavage, but I've definitely learned how to look good without putting all my business out there. This is only the beginning, but here are some sexy, yet not too revealing, Vegas clubbing options.

Show some shoulder
Instead of baring the usual cleavage, why not show skin a little further north? There's nothing as sexy as leaving something to the imagination. These three picks will drape in the right ways without making you wonder if you can show the photos to your... everyone.
1. Forever 21 slinky asymmetrical dress
2. Michael Stars 3/4 dolman sleeve tunic
3. Express crochet racerback tank

Bare the back
Another fun style to try: backless. Shows off your toned arms, back and shoulders in one fell swoop. Try these:
1. ASOS blocked jersey drape dress
2. Penumbra mini dress with leather strap
3. American Apparel sheer jersey scoop back dress

Color of the Season: Coral for Spring 2011

coral for spring

It is no secret that I am a fan of coral. If you've been following this blog for a while, you may remember this coral crochet dress. Or these coral pants (which I featured again recently). Or my latest purchase, the coral cardigan. In any shape or form, I've embraced the color, so you can imagine how excited I've been with all the lookbooks coming out featuring all sorts of beautiful versions of the shade. I already own so much of it, but my eyes continue to fixate on coral every time I enter a store. I really hope you guys like it as much as I do!

Here are some of my favorite internet finds in the color:

1. Topshop coral crochet dress
2. Forever 21 Coral shorts
3. Sephora coral lipgloss
4. Old Navy coral bathing suit top and bottom
5. Urban Outfitters coral belt
6. DV by Dolce Vita coral sandals via ASOS

P.S. I don't think I've ever said the word 'coral' as much as I have in this post!

I don't typically post food on here because there are so many brilliant blogs out there doing just that. But, for some reason, I decided that this breakfast pizza was worth showing you guys. Happy Sunday!
